Fruits: Flat, oblong pod, coiled and twisted at maturity.

Splitting to reveal flat black seeds

attached by orange, string-like arils.

この木の場合は肉厚の葉に
ラブノートやメッセージ、名前を刻むのだそうです。
この木の葉は厚くて大きく、葉が落ちない限り
メッセージが残ります。

次の日にはもう、こうして茶色くなってしまうのです。

And the flower turns to 3" round seed capsule.

花の後はこのタマネギのようなカプセルになり、
乾くと開いて中に赤い種が・・・・・・・
楽しみに待っています。

As the seed capsule dry, 

it split open into thick, flower-petal-like 

segments, exposing the seeds 

covered with soft red flesh.

It must be so sweet that I can't count how many bees

flying around the new flower.....

Their wings are wide like Butterfly,

orange yellow in color and 

markings are dark brown.

It's typical position of being perched 

at the tip of a weed stalk, 

waving in the breeze like a pennant 

gives the name.

ハロウィーンペナントという名のトンボ。

もちろん、オレンジの色からの連想に加え、

植物の茎のテッペンにとまって

風に揺れているのがペナントのようだというのが

名前の由来だそうです。

上の写真も、風の具合で皆そろって

方向を変えて、羽根がフラフラ揺れていました。

The flower is very showy, almost 2" (5 cm)

in diameter, white to pale cream color

and sweetly scented,

consisting of many conspicuous long stamens.

You can't miss it, I didn't miss it in a forest!

The fruits are round or oval, up to 2" 

in diameter, and are pale yellow with 

a faint pink blush.

They are edible, very distinctly rose scented,

and crisp and juicy.

Eaten as raw fruits, also use  to make stews,

 preserves, jellies and jams.

木々の陰で暗い中でも、5センチの花の存在は見逃し

ませんでした。近くには寄れなかったので

いいにおい、という事だけど分かりませんでした。

細長いリンゴのような、クリーム色の実は

煮てデザートにしたり、ジャム、ゼリーなどに

活用されるそうです。

エニシダを思わせます。

でも花はエニシダの豆の花よりも

ランに近いような・・・一枚の花びらだけに

Large shurub or small  tree with

smooth and shiny leaves of 2-3" long.

The flower is showy, brushlike 1 1/2" long.

Fragrant mostly in the evening.

Flowers open white, turning pink within 

a few hours, then to purple.

ジャマイカケイパー、スモークサーモンにかかせない

ケイパーの実の親戚のようです。

４片の花びらから、オシベが長く長く流れ出ています。

花の部分は始めは白く、数時間でピンクになり

古くなってくると上のようにムラサキです。

夜になるといい香りを放ちます。

The fruit is brown capsule 9 - 12" long,

 rupturing with age, exposing the red interior.

茶色のカプセルがはじけると、中は真っ赤なインテリア。

実はこの写真、何だか不明のまま眠っていましたが

今回調べていて、あ～～あれだ～～と日の目を見ました＾＾
