Halloween Pennant = Celithemis eponina

Their wings are wide like Butterfly,

orange yellow in color and 

markings are dark brown.

It's typical position of being perched 

at the tip of a weed stalk, 

waving in the breeze like a pennant 

gives the name.

ハロウィーンペナントという名のトンボ。

もちろん、オレンジの色からの連想に加え、

植物の茎のテッペンにとまって

風に揺れているのがペナントのようだというのが

名前の由来だそうです。

上の写真も、風の具合で皆そろって

方向を変えて、羽根がフラフラ揺れていました。

The flower is very showy, almost 2" (5 cm)

in diameter, white to pale cream color

and sweetly scented,

consisting of many conspicuous long stamens.

You can't miss it, I didn't miss it in a forest!

The fruits are round or oval, up to 2" 

in diameter, and are pale yellow with 

a faint pink blush.

They are edible, very distinctly rose scented,

and crisp and juicy.

Eaten as raw fruits, also use  to make stews,

 preserves, jellies and jams.

木々の陰で暗い中でも、5センチの花の存在は見逃し

ませんでした。近くには寄れなかったので

いいにおい、という事だけど分かりませんでした。

細長いリンゴのような、クリーム色の実は

煮てデザートにしたり、ジャム、ゼリーなどに

活用されるそうです。

Jerusalem Thorn / Mexican Palo Verde = Parkisonia aculeata

Family: Leguminosae

Origin: Tropical America

鋸の歯のような枝が沢山ある様子が

エニシダを思わせます。

でも花はエニシダの豆の花よりも

ランに近いような・・・一枚の花びらだけに

オレンジ色の斑点がついていました。

Family: Goodeniaceae

Origin: Tropical Asia

3-10' shrub on the beaches.

The flowers have five white petals about

2 cm long (3/4") extend halfway around

the flower, like a "Half Flower".

The fruits are white, 1 to 1.7 cm (3/8 to 6/8")
