Family: Pieridae (Whites and Sulphurs)

Wingspan: 1 3/4" to 3"

Great Southern Whites migrate when temperatures 

are in the mid 70 F or above.

Typical migrations are 20-40 miles and 

last two days or less.

So, when we saw this one, there were a lot

of others, too, not hundreds but not much less.

We just witnessed this migration!

　この日、ドライブしていた道で、白いチョウが何度も車の

前に飛び込んできて、速度を下げました。

そしたら、道の脇に、沢山のチョウがヒラヒラしている。

すごくたくさん・・・・何百とは言わないけれど、数十匹・・

こんなに沢山のチョウがいっぺんに飛んでいるのは

始めてみました。調べてみると、気温が70 F（20 C)

くらいになると、40マイル程度の移動をするという、

それをちょうど目撃したのでした！
