Screw Pine

The fruit to be inside, and the bracts covering it.

Screw Pine = Pandanus (600 species)
Family: Pandanaceae

The leaf looks like it of Palm tree,
but this plant is not related to palm trees.
Screw Pine has an upright trunk to 30 ft (9 m), 
with many horizontal spreading branches.
At the end of each branch is a spiral rosette 
of long leaves (around 6' long), armed with 
small reddish teeth along the margins.
葉がパームツリーのようだが、ヤシ科植物ではない。
まっすぐな幹、根元は柱状の気根に囲まれ、
枝が横に這うように伸びて、先端にヤシのような葉
をつける。葉の両側は赤っぽいギザギザ。

Screw pines are dioecious.
The male tree produce fragrant colorful flowers,
the female trees produce weire looking fruits,
which look like pineapples or big pine cones.
雌雄異体で、雄株が花をつけ、雌株がパイナップルのような、
大きな松ぼっくりのような実をつける。
